The Solution: Brand the event — “Doing Good is Good for Business”
The Result: Drawing in nearly 100 guests, this was Anybill’s most successful event in their philanthropic series to date. The overwhelming feedback leaves a lot of anticipation for next year.

“Doing Good is Good for Business is an effort to bring together the local business and social community for a common cause and purpose. That purpose is to highlight and foster the relationship between business and community, while recognizing that one cannot exist without the other.  In fact, it is a co-dependent and symbiotic relationship. When local business supports the community, the community in turn can better support local businesses. We believe this to be true and have demonstrated our commitment to this principle through our support of Companies for Causes, the Catalogue of Philanthropy – Greater Washington, and our own in-house Corporate Social Responsibility program, Pay It Forward.”

My dad Tom and I go BLUE for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

I, myself, am not as educated as I should be about prostate cancer, but being involved in this campaign during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month has helped me open those lines of communication with my dad. My dad gets checked regularly, and I now feel much better having asked him the question.

    Switching Things Up

    Posted by Kelsey

Our latest project with long existing client Convergent Wealth Advisors was to produce an announcement for their recent move to a new office location in Potomac, Maryland. After exploring a few conceptual directions — one playing with the fact that the move was only a stone’s throw away from their previous residence — we found potential behind the play on numbers of the addresses. Moving from 2600 to 12505 allowed for a playful spin on the typographic nature of the numbers. By setting them in the context of a manual tally counter, the number forms became a graphic expression of movement, ultimately depicting the phrase “We’re switching things up.”

Some of the most common challenges us designers are faced with is taking something that is commonly very cut and dry, such as the moving announcement, and tailoring it to the task at hand. By rethinking the execution of such pieces, the deliverables for our clients become stronger hence making our work much more rewarding.

Got something to say this year?

    Posted by Kelsey

That time of year has come yet again. We all have now re-gifted the two-pound box of caramel popcorn for the fifth week in a row, blown through that pocket of savings for the shiny new Xbox 360, and currently have every scent of hand soap sold at Bath & Body Works piled into our linen closets. Well, those holiday calories aren’t going anywhere for a while, and we aren’t getting a refund from the game-box company who released the 360X edition five days into the new year. So this year, instead of holding in all our holiday cheer, Grafik wants to help others share their feelings.

In collaboration with McArdle Solutions and Wayne Geyer, we are happy to finally release our 2011 Share Your Feelings Calendar. Do not let the word “calendar” fool you. This baby does much more then tell you what day of the week it is. Each calendar month is its own expressive door hanger. Early on in our process, we decided we wanted to take a new approach to a standard promo and make it more interactive. We considered how in today’s world most of us have fallen victim to the compulsive need to share what we are doing every minute of everyday via “status updates.” Why not take that a step further?

From there we thought of a hundred or so different sayings and worked hard illustrating each card with the much appreciated guidance and help from my partner in crime, Ms. Mila Arrisueño, the fabulous Mr. Hal Swetnam and Mr. Silver Fox himself, Gregg Glaviano. Whether it’s a “Talk to me in three cups” or “No BS Zone” kind of day, these door hangers are just another healthy way to share your feelings among your coworkers through good ol’ office humor.

So, to all my fellow Grafites, next time Donna’s closed door reads “Gettin’ down with my bad self,” give her five minutes. Sometimes channeling your inner super freak with a Rick James dance party can do wonders for HR’s mental health!
