The Vagina Monologues
1 comment
Every so often there are projects that come along that let you research interesting subjects. My recent favorite was for ‘The Vagina Monologues’. On a weekly basis I’d get comments from coworkers and friends along the lines of, “Working on your vagina Alex?” or “Doing some research buddy?”. Fortunately, I have a good sense of humor, and shared the laughs throughout the year long process.
Judy gave me the opportunity to design and illustrate the promotional pieces for University of Pennsylvania’s production of ‘The Vagina Monologues’. The challenge was to create an illustration that was powerful, strong, feminine, beautiful, sexual, confident, and interpretive that would ultimately embody the spirit of ‘The Vagina Monologues’. With the help of Judy and Gregg, we were able to create not just posters, but also T-shirts, sweatshirt hoodies and postcards that Grafik is proud to add to our body of work. Needless to say, we are really excited and proud of our work that supports and empowers the spirit, confidence, and beauty of women, from the inside out.

Help give the kids a place to play & learn!

For several years Grafik has had the pleasure of being a partner with a great group of educators-DC Prep Public Charter School. http://www.dcprep.org Back in June a number
of Grafik employees, their significant others and friends volunteered to build a fabulous playground facility for the Edgewood campus. It was a great cause for a great group.Well they need the communities help again. All the info is below. Check it out.
We hope you can help.Hello to all. I am writing to ask your help in building a beautiful new playground and “edible” teaching garden at DC Prep’s Benning Elementary Campus. Many of you helped us at the Edgewood playground in June 2008, so you know what’s involved — as well as how much fun it is! Our Build Day is Saturday, October 3rd from 8-5 (or until the project is completed). We will need 140 volunteers to make the magic happen and really hope you will join us. Whether you’ve never hammered a nail or are highly skilled with power tools, we will have plenty of work for you! I’m attaching a flyer that shows the project plans as well as gives the details of the build day. Please feel free to distribute it broadly — the more the merrier.
There will also be three pre-build days — September 30 and October 1 & 2 — to prepare for the “raising” of the playground on the 3rd. We need 30 volunteers on each of those days
and would welcome your help. If you are good with tools or have some carpentry experience, you are especially needed during the pre-build. Finally, we need some real brawn on Friday, October 2nd when we will move gravel by the wheelbarrow-full to provide the subsurface for the garden beds and the playground. Please let me know if you would like additional information or have any questions.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on October 3rd!Warm regards,
Ibby

New Ways of Communicating
Project Natal Yo!Hows it going everyone? One of my best friends sent me this link the other day and
I want to share it with you guys. Some of you have probably already seen this, but for
those who haven’t this promo video is for the upcoming Xbox. It’s the first controller-less entertainment system, it’s like the Nintendo Wii but 10x better. The Xbox 360 is
already a great gaming system, you can talk to friends, send messages, watch movies (dvds, netflix, etc.), play games, go on to facebook, listen to music and so much more.ÂSo why am I sharing this? It’s important to keep up on how people are communicating, you’ve seen how important social networking is and how fast it’s growing. Soon kids & adults will be able to video
chat in an interactive environment from the comfort of their own homes (2:13). Obviously this technology already exists but soon it’ll be cheap enough for anyone to purchase.
Companies like Nintendo (Wii) & Microsoft (Xbox) are blurring the lines between gaming systems and home computers. It’s safe to assume that one day we’ll be communicating through these kind of technologies. When I started here at Grafik (1 year ago) 90% of the office were not on Facebook, and look at us now, you can’t get some of us off of it.Â
These new and streamlined, forms of communication will change the way we think,
work and design. New ideas, create new opportunities.ASHARE THIS TAGS:Anything + Everything, Social Media
